Common Processes for Iron and Manganese Removal in Well Water Treatment
- Oxidation and Filtration:Process: Iron and manganese are oxidized using chemicals like chlorine or potassium permanganate, converting them into insoluble particles, which are then filtered out using a media filter.
- Aeration:Process: Air is introduced into the water to oxidize iron and manganese, causing them to precipitate out as solid particles, which are subsequently removed by filtration.
- Ion Exchange:Process: Water passes through a resin bed where iron and manganese ions are exchanged with sodium or hydrogen ions, effectively removing them from the water.
- Greensand Filtration:Process: Water is passed through a greensand filter, which is coated with manganese dioxide. This media oxidizes and filters out both iron and manganese from the water.
- Biological Filtration:Process: Naturally occurring bacteria are used to oxidize and precipitate iron and manganese, which are then filtered out. This method is eco-friendly and sustainable.
